When was the last time you sat down and spent some time dedicated to thinking about your hopes and dreams for the future?
Did those dreams scare you a little? Were they a little intimidating? Overwhelming? I hope they were!
If your dreams don’t scare you, fill you with awe and make you feel at least a little overwhelmed, then its time to go back to the drawing board!
Here’s the thing about dreams… if you don’t map out a plan to make that dream a reality… it will only ever be a dream!
2.5 years ago my big scary dream was getting my husband home, full time. No more long haul trucking where he was gone for 4 to 8 weeks at a time. I had NO IDEA how I was going to make it happen… until I decided to just figure it out.
It took me a couple of weeks to come up with a game plan. It took a little time, but I figured out how to reverse engineer the dream of having my husband home. I set monetary goals, business goals, client goals and personal goals that all led towards that one BIG SCARY DREAM… D coming home, permanently.
9 months later, he returned from one last 7 week run and was home for good! Surely you can imagine the celebrating we did those first few weeks. We also set some more joint goals and made plans for our home renovations. We also figured out the next big scary dream were were going to start chasing, together!
Now, making those big scary dreams happen for myself and for other’s is my life’s passion, and the foundation of how Every Day Boss came to be in existence.
I learned so much along the way from taking what seemed like an impossible goal, to a realistic plan, to ultimately succeeding! I thought I should share at least the top 3 things I learned on this journey…
3 Things you need to know about making your big scary dreams a reality:
#1. Its going to be harder than you hoped.
Chances are you are thinking about your big scary dream, and are overwhelmed by all the moving parts, potential details, and imagined work its going to take. And you have every right to be.
To make your dream a reality is going to take more work that you ever thought! You’re probably looking at early mornings, late nights, and weekends dedicated to making this thing a reality. But its not just about the physical work, you’re going to have to do mental work too!
#2. It’s going to be easier than you thought.
The hardest part of making your dream a reality is the mindset change that has to take place in order for you to succeed, at least it was for me.
I honestly think that this is one of the hardest and easiest things you’ll accomplish in your journey. Hard because realizing that your current way of thinking needs massive work can be a difficult, eye opening, and scary. Easy because once you realize that this change is THE THING that makes all the difference, you’re going to be willing to do whatever it takes!
I also think that your mindset is the key element that a lot of people fail to talk about when it comes to chasing your dreams and making them a reality. Getting your mind right, is at least 2/3’s the battle as far as I am concerned.
#3. You’re going to be willing to sacrifice a LOT to make your dream a reality, and you won’t be sad about it.
When you’re really committed to make your Big Scary Dream a reality, you’re going to have to make sacrifices. Some big, some little, but all very much worth it.
I reached a point where missing events, giving up sleep, passing on some fun opportunities didn’t sting. Why? Because I was determined to do whatever it took to make my dream come true. I was willing to miss out, give up and pass on just about anything and everything if it meant that I could push even a little bit closer to my goal.
And in the end, it paid off, BIG TIME.
Having my husband home, partnering in our businesses and helping me reach the NEXT goal is priceless. AND it also gives me the freedom and ability to do things I had to pass on previously. We’re traveling more, experiencing more, and enjoying life a LOT more than we ever did before, all because we dealt with the short term pain, and focused on the long term gain!
Chasing your Big Scary Dream takes a whole lot or work – physically, mentally, even emotionally. In the end, living your best life and making those dreams a reality are SO WORTH it!!
